Assertive Interrogaive

Making interrogative:

Rule 1

1. If there is an auxiliary verb, it should be brought to the beginning and n't shoud be used. 

Auxiliary verbs: is, am, are, was, were, shall, will, should, would, can, could, may, might, do, did.


Example

Assertive - He is going.

Interrogative- Isn't he going? 


Try these :

i) Honest men are respected. 

ii) Stars are twinkling in the sky. 

iii) She is my sister.

IV) Mr Sen is a teacher. 

v) You are my best friend. 

vi) I shall go to market. 

vii) We should respect our teacher. 

viii) He will be a doctor  

ix) They will write. 


Rule 2: If there is 'not' in the sentence, it will be omitted:

Example :

Assertive- She is not my sister.

Interrogative- Is she my sister?


Try these :

i) He is not my brother.

ii) Rahim is not an archer. 

iii) They are not going home now

IV) He is not a school teacher.

v) They will not go now. 


Rule 3: If there is no auxiliary verb, 'do' will be used in the beginning: 


Example :

Assertive : They play football everyday. 

Interrogative : Don't they play football everyday? 


Assertive : You play in the afternoon.

Interrogative : Don't you play in the afternoon?


Try these :

I) Farmers work in the field. 

ii) They walk in the morning. 

iii) Good students read everyday. 

IV) My teachers like me. 

v) Malay and Souvik play together. 


Rule 4 : If the main verb is in past form, 'did' will be used and the main verb will be changed to its present form. 


Example :

Assertive : They went to Agartala. 

Interrogative : Didn't they go to Agartala? 


Try these :

iii) She came here yesterday. 

IV) She scolded me. 

v) She sang a sweet song. 

vi) The peon rang the bell. 


Rule 5 

If there is 's' or 'es' in the main verb 'does' will be used in the beginning ans 's' or 'es' will not be used in the main verb.


Example:

Assertive : She wants a pen. 

Interrogative : Doesn't she want a pen?


Try these :

I) She sings sweetly. 

ii) Mira writes very nicely. 

iii) She reads everyday. 

IV) My teacher likes me. 

v) She reads three hours eveveryday.


Rules 6 

Everyone > who

Everybody >who


Example 

Assertive : Everybody wants to be happy.

Interrogative : Who does not want to be happy? 


Try these :

I) Everybody wants to be rich.

ii) Everyone wants to live long. 

iii) Everybody will like him.

IV) Everybody likes happiness. 

v) Everyone will agree with you. 


Make these sentences interrogative: 

1. The boy is foolish. 

2. She is intelligent. 

3. They want a car. 

4. She does not like it. 

5. She likes to dance. 

6 . We went to Kolkata

7 . They are our friends. 

8 . I should help him. 

9. She can lift ths box. 

10. I sang a song yesterday.

11. She swims in the river. 

12. My friend is coming. 

13. This food is cooked by my mother.

14. My mother cooks food everyday. 

15. She cooked food last night. 

16. Who does not want be rich? 

17. Everybody likes to be happy. 

18. Nobody can do this.
